Oh.My.Gosh.HOW HAS IT BEEN FIVE MONTHS SINCE MY LAST BLOG POST?! I had all the intentions to do this once every month or two, but man, time flies…. I will try to be better about sharing all about our lives on here.
We are still loving life here in Groningen, even despite us being in the midst of a full 5-week lock down due to Coronavirus. Paddy, Friday, and I are grounded in our gratitude for our health and for each other. 2020 was an absolutely insane year for us all, but I feel we have all grown so much through it. 2020 taught us patience, accountability, letting go, chasing our dreams even when the work is hard, acceptance, slowing down, and most importantly of all: how to take care of each other. 2020 has taught us the power of collective healing, even if it has been through great pain. 2021 is bringing more work, but also more light. More hope. I feel it glowing within and around me, and I hope you do too.
I am beyond thankful that I have still been able to create artwork in my studio and be fully immersed in my Masters of Fine Arts program this year. I have made some very dear friends both in and out of the program. Special buddy shoutouts to Gemma from the UK, Lola from here in the Netherlands, and Jaime from Spain! The first term of the program has been all about exploration for me, figuring out how I want my work to change and what I want to be creating. I will include some images my recent work and process… you will notice some changes from the way I used to paint. I have been exploring multiple different ways of painting: still making some oil and acrylic paintings with brushes, but I have also started an exciting new process that I have been dreaming up for years… Body Painting! This is a fusion of my two greatest loves of artistry and embodied movement. Even though the work is changing, the mission has stayed the same : to create and share art as a vehicle for joy, wonder and healing. This next term I will continue these explorations, as well as begin some new Art Theory seminars.
Paddy is doing great at his job at Event Insight. He is making some incredible friends and making his team so proud of his hard work ethic and positive attitude (no surprise there, Paddy!). He’s even been making music with a new friend of his named Peter, and making some music on his own as well. Maybe he will let me share some of the new music here in the future! Like many of us, Paddy is really looking forward to the day we can all gather together around live music. Oh, and his 29th birthday is just under two weeks away! Be sure to send him a little happy birthday note on January 15 - he isn’t on social media anymore so he will definitely let it slip by without saying a word ;)
My yoga membership is doing great as well. I officially have 95 classes on the membership and counting, and it has been one of the biggest blessings 2020 brought me. I learned how to run my own business, how to exercise my passion for creative healing as I helped others physically and spiritually, and really found my voice through this platform. I walked away from studios that didn’t align with my true core values as I left Seattle, and in this membership I have built a thriving community of amazing individuals that I believe in. I also just led a big workshop all about one of my favorite Yoga deities named Hanuman! It was such an uplifting gathering of souls who were willing to open up and take a big leap of faith into this new year. I love my yoga family and am honored to watch it continue to grow.
I think this is all for now. Like I said, I will be better at sharing these more regularly. As you have noticed, I really am not on Facebook much at all these days. I find it to be a really toxic place for me personally. So if you want to stay in touch, please write me a message and I’ll give you my email. You can also follow me on Instagram to see my art and yoga happenings @dulcinearosalie.
